Overflow from post 15

I’ve taken a moment to share my wonderment about who the Two Witness of Revelation might be.

I believe they’re here now, so I’m starting this list of possibilities.

Pastor Tom Hughes

Carter Conlon, general overseer of Times Square Church

Dov Schwarz of Watch Therefore

Maybe they are Jeff Morgan (of So Be It) and Arielle Randle

C.E.O. of Jews for Jesus

They work/teach God’s word together and do amazing individual street witnessing in Jerusalem:

Well, maybe not, since they’re both married, but I haven’t seen a better team.

According to the Book of Judges, Deborah was a prophetess of the Israelites, the fourth Judge of pre-monarchic Israel. She was also the leader of the army that defeated Sisera.

NOTE: Human Hardness of Heart: Jesus stated that the Mosaic Law made certain allowances. He said it was, “due to the hardness of your hearts” (Matthew 19:7-8). In other words, because of prevailing societal conditions, God sometimes bore with practices that fell short of His original design.

Matt. 8, Jesus replied, “Moses permitted you to divorce your wives because of your hardness of heart; but it was not this way from the beginning.

The point is that the Israelites, who Jesus said were hard hearted toward females, allowed Deborah so many top leadership roles. And then Jesus came and taught a much elevated status of women . . . Shouldn’t there be more women in Christianity like Deborah?

Example: Jesus taught that for women also, it’s also preferable to remain unmarried in order to better serve Him. Jesus said both genders can serve Him better when we’re not focused on pleasing a spouse.

1 Corinthians 8-9, Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.

For women, this would also mean being released from submission to a husband (son of Adam), in order to better serve Christ, who is the true husband.

I’ve never written about gender much, but I read a book about the female role in Greek culture once. It was shocking, but this is not the post, except to say that the hardness toward them seemed far worse than in the Israelite culture. So again, certain allowances may’ve been made for the hardness of the men; But something else was also set in motion.

I think one of the things Jesus came for was to reverse the curses; And, I believe it’s happened to a generous degree regarding gender, but won’t be completed until the Millennium or later for those who hadn’t received immortal bodies. During the Millennium Jesus will keep the order of gender in a way that won’t eliminate gender roles nor will they degrade either gender.

Until then, since I think there had to be some temporary compromises with Greek culture, just as there was with Israelite culture, Christians should take that into account. Christian leadership should not try to force Greek culture on anybody. Marriage roles prepare society for being the bride of Christ.

In the passages about women in church, St. Paul has recorded, in the Bible itself, that some of them were his opinion not Jesus’ commandment. (And the strangest verse turns out to have been a scribal insertion.) If anybody has very strong views on gender, they better have studied a whole lot, because there are issues with the 3 Pastoral Epistles, which are missing from significant early compilations of St. Paul’s writings; Although they have some of the most favored verses, they also contain startling contradictions with the overriding trend of Jesus Christ and St. Paul to elevate females. Also, a teacher with strong views must have read the apocryphal writing in order to understand the prevailing climate toward women.

For example here’s an excerpt from The False Gospel of Thomas verse 114

Simon Peter said to them, “Make Mary leave us, for females don’t deserve life.” Jesus said, “Look, I will guide her to make her male, so that she too may become a living spirit resembling you males.  For every female who makes herself male will enter the domain of Heaven.”

If anyone thinks this too crazy to pay attention to . . . the new pope, Pope Leo XIV is trying to bring it back. You must verify this for yourself.

What did Jesus have to say about? What might have been the hidden meaning in Jesus’ story (parable?) about Mary and Martha?

Luke 10:38-42 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=luke%2010:38-42&version=NIV

Assuming we know the story . . .

So, a woman could chose to be a ‘Mary’ or a ‘Martha’. Jesus loves Martha just as much as Mary, but He said that Mary chose the better place. Mary wanted to hear Jesus words. If Jesus hadn’t been there, the same spirit would lead Mary to study her Bible. A Mary would be more likely to choose not to marry, which Jesus said is preferable. She might become a Biblical scholar.

In my opinion, there are definite limits. For example, she just must not impinge on the pastorate or make herself appear to be a man. That’s out of respect for Jesus. Such respect is also manifested by the covering of the head of a woman. That’s also if a woman’s unmarried. It’s a lot about recognizing that Jesus as the head.

Of course Jesus is also the head of men, but the point is that believers are kind of dress rehearsing for being married to Christ; And so someone has to play the role of the husband and someone has to play the role of the wife.

Modesty for both genders but it’s quite obvious why women need to be more diligent.

Now what’s left but head covering?

A deep study of the Greek revealed some eye popping surprises.Gasp! It says ‘hair’ instead of ‘cloth’, is an acceptable covering for a woman’s head! !!

I suspect the Lord would be pleased if more people studied those 1 Corinthian verses more deeply in the Greek.

Here’s just one example; This one is in English:

1 Corinthians 11:15

but if a woman has long hair, it is a glory to her? For her hair is given to her for a covering.
